Michael Sheen will be the villain in Tron Legacy!!

Michael Sheen was being quite cheeky with us on Twitter a few months ago, when he talked about being signed for a new role in a "mystery film" in which he would not be playing "a real person" and "in fact not a person at all." He also asked his Twitter followers for their favorite Jeff Bridges movie.

Disney has revealed today, that the role is the villain in the upcoming Tron sequel!

There are no specific details on the villain in Tron Legacy outside of knowing Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), is looking into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. The film is expected to hit theaters in 2010.

It's hard to believe John Cusack is in this very silly movie. If it's a time machine that takes you back to the 80's, however, John Cusack is the perfect person!

Dame Judi

Dame Judi Dench was crossing Shaftesbury Ave in London on her way to rehearsal for a new project on Tuesday and was almost run down by a speeding taxi. The taxi driver shouted to her out of the window, 'You stupid c**t!". Dame Judi's fast reply- ”That's Dame C**t to you!”

She's such a gem!

Hugh Dancy does Press for Adam

Great article about Hugh Dancy and Adam in the New York Times this weekend:

Mr. Dancy said he had to put aside his normal acting instincts to learn to play a character who lacks empathy. “The nature of the condition is that it’s anti-empathetic,” Mr. Dancy said. “So there isn’t something you can empathize your way into. You have to study it and study it and talk to people until it sinks in.”

And that is what he did: he read books about people with Asperger’s, met and spent time with people with Asperger’s, and talked the character through exhaustively with Mr. Mayer, who had done his own research.

At the same time he had to play a real character, not a type, not simply Person With Asperger’s. “Somebody asked me, outside of this condition, who is this person?” he explained. “There was something delicate and strange and mysterious about the character. He was not just some screenwriter’s vague idea of what a man with Asperger’s might be like, but someone with a very specific set of characteristics.”
And you have to watch this cute video clip from USA Today!
I tried to embed it, but it was autoplay.

Adorable!! Here's the USA Today interview with both actors.

Adam opens this week in New York and LA, and expands to more theaters over the coming weeks.

Being Human

I caught a new BBC America series this weekend: Being Human. It's a show about three flatmates in England. The twist? The two guys are a vampire and a werewolf, and the gal is a ghost! It's both spooky and funny. Mitchell is a dreamy Irish vampire trying to go "on the wagon" and not drink blood. George the werewolf rips up the apartment furniture at the full moon, leading Mitchell to say, "I see a trip to Ikea in our future!" LOL!

Watch the first 7 minutes for a taste. I didn't know what to expect, and got sucked right in.

Being Human airs Saturdays, 9/8c on BBC America.

Flynn Lives!

Genius, Visionary, Modern Hero.

That is Kevin Flynn.

He came into our lives and showed us the limitless possibilities of the future. And then, all of a sudden, he "disappeared."

Some people believed he died. We don't. We know that Kevin Flynn Lives.

We're not crazy, we're not obssessed, we're not lunatics. We simply have followed the facts wherever they lead. And the facts tell us that Kevin Flynn Lives.

We are here for Kevin. Nobody can make us stop believing that he is out there, that he's waiting for us, and that he will return when the time is right.

Peter Jackson discusses The Hobbit at Comic Con

Peter Jackson made his very first appearance at Comic Con to promote District 9, which he produced. At the beginning of the panel, he began by talking about The Hobbit, and progress with the project to head off all the questions the audience would have. They are writing the script and about 3 weeks from giving it to the studio to look over and approve. No actors have been signed as of yet. He also explains why they are doing two Hobbit movies.

My favorite moment of this clip from Rope of Silicon is at about the six minute mark when Peter takes out his camera and takes a picture of the Comic Con audience, asking the guy in the back to smile. "This is a moment to remember for the rest of my life."

No Impact Man

No Impact Man is coming out September 11, first in New York and then expanding over the coming weeks. We saw the premiere of this film at Sundance and it was much more entertaining that I was expecting. It's really about the relationship and their marriage as they go through this one year project of trying to have no impact on the environment. Watch the trailer below to get a flavor of what I mean of some of the funny moments as he tries to get his Starbucks addicted wife to go without not only coffee, but even electricity. Read my review and see pictures of the premiere here.

Happy Birthday Daniel Radcliffe!

It's Daniel Radcliffe's 20th birthday today. And thank God for that as it's getting less inappropriate by the year to have a crush on him. You'll note that I picked mostly bearded pictures to make him look even older.

EW Popwatch even has an inappropriate crush quiz in honor of Daniel's birthday, and I'm glad to say I didn't score very high, but it was a laugh riot. Some of my favorites:

6. You flew to London or New York to see him in Equus. (Bonus point to anyone, tourist or local, who waited by the stage door. An additional point if it was, at the time, snowing or below freezing.)
7. You have DVR'd or rented December Boys but couldn't tell us the plot because you just fast-forwarded to his sex scene with Teresa Palmer.
8. You distinctly remember participating in a debate on who was hotter, Radcliffe or Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory), after seeing Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. (Subtract a point if you're now on Team Pattinson.)
9. You still believe that leather-vest shot of Dan in the August 2007 issue of Details was a good idea. (*snort*)

11. You're over 25. (Add an additional point for every five years after that.)
The kicker of the whole thing was THIS:
(Bonus point if this inside photo is or will soon become your desktop photo/screen saver.)

I have to say my reaction is more to simply giggle at this picture!!! LOL!

Jane Campion's Bright Star

Jane Campion's Bright Star created quite a stir at it's premiere at Cannes. This is one for awards season, and it's so great to have a new romance by director Jane Campion to look forward to.

One of the highlights of the weekend at the Cannes Film Festival was the premiere of Jane Campion’s Bright Star, centering on the 3-year romance, from 1818-1821, between poet John Keats and Fanny Brawne. Ben Whishaw stars as Keats, Abbie Cornish as his paramour Fanny, and Thomas Sangster as her brother Samuel.

Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art--
Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night
And watching, with eternal lids apart,
Like nature's patient, sleepless Eremite,
The moving waters at their priestlike task
Of pure ablution round earth's human shores,
Or gazing on the new soft-fallen mask
Of snow upon the mountains and the moors--
No--yet still stedfast, still unchangeable,
Pillow'd upon my fair love's ripening breast,
To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,
Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,
Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,
And so live ever--or else swoon to death.

Hugh Dancy is a Rebel

Adam is almost here, and that means press, interviews and photoshoots of Hugh Dancy! He was interviewed by Black Book Magazine, and was photographed as 4 different "rebels" -- James Dean, Jackson Pollack, Sid Vicious and Oliver Wilde.

Frankly, I find the Sid Vicious picture a little ludicrous, if still adorable. Oscar Wilde seems more his style, don't you think?

On Adam:
The difficulty inherent in playing anyone with a disability, he understands, is that expectations of naturalism are set impossibly high. The consequences have not gone unnoticed by Dancy, who admits, “This project was rife with opportunities for me to fuck it up enormously and, by doing so, prove my own limitations. To botch the whole thing would have been calamitous.”

EW has pics from Iron Man 2 this week

It's Comic Con time, gang, and first up is a release of a pic of Scarlett Johannson as Black Widow in Iron Man 2. Mickey Rourke plays the villain Whiplash. The EW article has a few interesting quotes:

Rourke, for his part, wanted to instill some lightness into the role of the heavy. "I told Favreau, 'I don't want to just play him as a one-dimensional p----,'" he says. "He let me have a cockatoo, who I talk to and get drunk with while I’m making my suit."
Wait, a cockatoo?? Okayyy.
Adding more flesh and blood to the new movie, Scarlett Johansson joined the cast as Stark’s mysterious new assistant, Natasha, who has an alter ego of her own, Black Widow. That introduction inevitably sparks romantic tension between Stark and former assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), who’s been promoted to CEO of Stark Industries. "The men want it to be, like, 'Ooh, the girls are fighting over Tony,' but it's not as standard as that," says Paltrow. "There's a weird male catfight fantasy. Downey agrees. He believes what differentiates the franchise from other superhero series can be summarized as follows: "We're horny. Not, like, can't-bring-your-kids horny, but just…horny."
Horny Robert Downey, Jr. does it for me!

Ryan Reynolds is Green Lantern

After rumors that the role of the Green Lantern was down to three - Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Cooper (whose star is certainly on the rise!) or Justin Timberlake (!??!), we have our answer. It's going to be Ryan Reynolds, who was one of the best things about Wolverine as Deadpool.

Empire agrees that “Reynolds can do headstrong and cocky in his sleep.”

Of the three actors vying for the role, Reynolds was our first choice to play the headstrong, cocky Hal Jordan, a hotshot pilot who becomes entrusted with an all-powerful ring and membership of a galactic corps of green-clad cops whose job it is to keep the peace in the universe.
Green Lantern is set for a June 17, 2011 release just in time for my birthday. "Green Lantern" a DC Comic that started in 1940, is the story of Hal Jordan, a second-generation test pilot. Jordan is an ordinary man who has been charged with defending a sector of the universe.

Yeah, Nathan Fillon would have been great, too, but we'll take Ryan. He's the whole package. Looks awesome, nailed the whole angsty superhero as Deadpool, and he's damn funny. I loved him in the Proposal. Ryan is an actor who has grown on me over the years. Good for him to get such a major role.

Here's hoping Bradley Cooper can snag something juicy soon, too.

A More Seductive Coffee Break with Dominic West

Man, those Brits know how to do ads. This is a new viral online campaign by Carte Noire coffee for a "more seductive coffee break".

Carte Noire is aiming to inject sex appeal into coffee breaks using actors including The Wire's Dominic West to read steamy excerpts from novels such as Pride & Prejudice in Jackanory-style online video clips.

The campaign, perhaps designed as the thinking woman's equivalent of the Diet Coke break hunk, aims to give women a diversion when they want some "me-time" over a cup of coffee.

Kraft-owned Carte Noire has signed up West, Cranford actor Greg Wise and Dan Stevens, whose credits include Sense and Sensibility, in a series of online videos reading romance scenes from 30 classic titles.

Watch and listen to Dominic West (300 and The Wire) read the proposal scene from Pride and Prejudice. A late birthday present for me, as it was posted on my birthday. It could almost make a girl switch to coffee from tea!

There are eight coffee break readings so far.

The Hangover - Mini-review

I am late to The Hangover train. I had heard from several people that it was HILARIOUS, but for various reasons, I hadn't had a chance to see it until now. OMG. It is so funny. I laughed very hard. Yes, it's about a juvenile bachelor party gone wild, but this is great writing, and so nice to see some new talent make good in a break out hit. Bradley Cooper has kind of snuck up on us, playing the bad guy in Wedding Crashers and other supporting roles. His star is ascending, and man, he is a cutie. Quite talented and funny. Ed Helms and other Daily Show alums have a good showing too, but the scene stealer by far is Zach Galifianakis (with the baby above!) This guy is very much in demand now for future starring roles, and I love his awkward Between Two Ferns interview web series on Funny or Die. Check out this one with his co-star Bradley Cooper.

All the great word of mouth you've heard about this film is definitely true. It's a must see, and I give it three and half stars. I'm looking forward to more from Zach Galifianakis in the future, and I'm glad Bradley Cooper scored a Rom Com with Sandra Bullock (All About Steve). Can we please be done with Matthew McConaughey, and move on to the new blonde go to guy from now on? Thank you.

Cinemash Sid & Nancy

You MUST watch this hilarious clip from Mean Magazine in their first of the Cinemash series.
OMG!! This is so funny because they made a joke a reality! There's a line in the trailer for 500 Days of Summer where the Zooey compares their relationship to Sid and Nancy, but she says SHE is Sid. So, Mean magazine had them film a scene from Sid & Nancy -- Zooey Deschanel is Sid, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Nancy.

What's really a riot is that this is going to be a series. Next week brings Cheech and Chong doing Tron!

In one of the few nods to a current project, the first short, which posted Tuesday, features Gordon-Levitt and Deschanel re-enacting the climax of "Sid and Nancy" with all the junkie drama and heartache that Gary Oldman and Chloe Webb brought to the original -- with a catch. Playing off a scene in their upcoming "(500) Days of Summer," it's Gordon-Levitt in lingerie, mascara (and stubble) as Nancy Spungen and Deschanel in punk-god drag as Sid Vicious.

"We wanted to take it really seriously," Gordon-Levitt says. "To be winking would be a joke on a joke -- the gender reversal being the joke itself. To make it funny, we had to do the scene in a real way."

Marc Webb, who directed both "(500) Days" and the "Sid" "Cinemash" episode, says: "It was one of those things that -- it had to be done. Once the idea is out there, you have to do it. You just can't shove it back into your gullet."

The Buzz About THE HURT LOCKER

This film, set in 2004 Iraq about an elite bomb squad, is getting major Oscar buzz, especially for director Kathryn Bigelow. From the Chicago Tribune yesterday:
"The Hurt Locker" made its world premiere at last year's Venice Film Festival; since then, the accolades have been relentless and the early, limited-release box office figures are promising. Bigelow seems assured of an Oscar nomination. Her work here isn't as overtly stylized as her earlier, pulpier screen efforts. Or rather, it's stylized differently, as a documentary-style fiction film, shot in Jordan, using four hand-held 16 mm cameras in blasting heat and adverse conditions.

The film has great actors like Ralph Fiennes, David Morse, and Guy Pearce in supporting roles, but the main characters of the elite bomb squad are played by relative unknowns. It's out in limited release, and will open in Chicago this weekend.

Watch the opening of the film to see what all the hype is about:
